I ended up with a Mercedes 300D that I have no interest in. It was a car from the southern US so it has no rust. It has a few gremlins in the electrical system but ran well last time I ran it. The title is a problem because the prior owner has passed before he could find the title. I was going to run it in a demo derby but I heard the 300D is a "soft" structured car, I know it will run forever. Suggestions?

Can you get it re-titled? Is that possible? If not, Lemons or sell it to a lemons team.

If the previous owner gave you a bill of sale, that ought to work, right?

I have no suggestions, but I kind of love these cars. A good friend of mine had one back when we were in high school. It was the non-turbo version. It would go 0-60 sometimes. We once pegged the speedo at 85mph, and it was one of the scariest rides I've ever been on in my life.

It also suffered from electrical gremlins. We were riding down the road one time and it was kind of chilly and I asked him if we could turn some heat on. He reached over and hit the heater switch and the fan, then cranked the wheel over till we had 2 tires off the road. I was yelling "What the hell are you doing???" and his response was "Turning on the heat." Sure enough, we hit a bump and that made the connection in the broken contactor and the heat came on.

It was a hoot, I'd recommend keeping it and doing something fun, like Lemons or Chump.

W123 300D (5cyl), I assume? It's usually not impossible to re-title something, but LeMons is a better bet probably than demo derby.
